Get Out!: Breakfast that tastes like home

Michigan paraphernalia hung from every corner of this little restaurant. It made this State fan not want to mention anything relating to anything green and white or dare to say Sparty. However, when looking closely, one will find green and white napkins, green seats and white walls, so really State colors are hidden in this U of M fan restaurant. So where might one find such a place? A place where true Michigan fans can go to celebrate their Wolverines? 5.37 miles from Cornerstone on the corner of Plainfield and Fuller is where you will find The Breakfast Nook. Not only does this restaurant have blue and yellow everywhere, it also has good food!

At The Breakfast Nook one can get breakfast for every meal of the day, but they don’t just have breakfast they also have lunch and dinner. So what did I order for dinner? Well for the indecisive person like myself, The Breakfast Nook put a little chef’s hat on the menu that denotes customer favorites. So I ordered the Ham Slam that came with special sauce and fries (our waitress told me it was really good) and my sister got the New Yorker wrap with fries. After only waiting what seemed like two minutes, our food came, and it was steaming hot! It smelled good, and our growling stomachs couldn’t wait to dig in! My sister let me try a bite of her wrap and I let her try some of my ham sandwich. Only one word came to my mind after I tried her wrap: wow! The wrap was stuffed with lettuce, mayo, tomatoes and bacon. We both had to get to-go-boxes, because they gave us so much food. My sister was personally excited about the leftover food for lunch the next day.

Although we were the youngest people in the restaurant, and the seat cushion had a big rip in it, the food was good. The Breakfast Nook is not your regular restaurant. One will find beautiful wood carvings of a horse, dove, child, etc. on the wall that were made by a local man and can be purchased for about $140. You can also buy a newspaper and a gumball on your way into the restaurant. If you sit in a certain seat, you can watch the cooks grill your food!

For just under three dollars, one can get two eggs, potato and toast from 6 am to 11 am. You can even get your eggs any way you like them: sunny-side up, poached, over-easy, over-hard, scrambled and omelets.  Not only does this restaurant have breakfast, they also have lunch and dinner with consists of Swiss steak, beef tips and noodles, goulash, a mini burrito, perch and a sirloin steak dinner. We didn’t find anything on the menu that was more than $10.  Also kids eat free, when an adult meal is purchased. This family friendly restaurant has home cooked meals fresh from the grill.

Looks can definitely be deceiving when it comes to the appearance of this little restaurant, but the people were friendly and the food was great! This local family-owned restaurant is where you can party with people who have more years under their belt, and where you can get a nice home cooked meal. So GetOut! and try The Breakfast Nook.
