Lady Eagles: team of unity

Cornerstone’s women’s soccer team refused to call it quits, making it to the playoffs again. The team’s season progression has been somewhat rocky with a season record that cramps their ability to parade and boast, but as the team reflects on the distance they have covered so far, they are, for the most part, satisfied.

“Our goal is to get into the playoffs and we’ve done that,” Coach Randy Strawser said.

With that said Strawser and the team as a whole had expected the season to look a little prettier than what it does.

“We have had our ups and downs throughout, but we were able to make it through and also grow together in unity,” team member Amy Vander Bent said. “Our team always tries to play ‘for Him’ and that was one of our goals going onto the field every game. I think overall we had a good season. We didn’t win as many games as we would have liked, but we also played one of the toughest schedules that we have had in a long time, if not ever.”

“We may not have the greatest record,” Jessica Brussee, team captain said, “but we have played ranked teams and we have learned from those losses to improve and work harder to get better.”

If there is one thing they are most proud of as a team, it is their unity.

“God has really blessed our team from the start by allowing us to have unity, which was a struggle to achieve in the past,” team member, Jaren Soule said.  “We can’t control the outcome of the game, but we can control how much we bring to the field. We want to be remembered as the team that goes down with a fight!”

They achieved a 6-4-2 record this year in the WHAC.
