Students enjoy discounted Lions’ tickets
Tickets to an NFL game run into the hundreds of dollars. It has become a sporting event only the rich can attend. Whenever, a fan gets a chance to buy a ticket at a discount price then, it’s like Christmas. For a few people at Cornerstone, Christmas came early this year.
With the Lions record standing at 0-8 and TV broadcast being dependent on ticket sales, the Lions organization began offering tickets normally priced at $50 for $10.
The decrease in price was being offered to non-profit organizations and the desire was to help the Lions sellout Ford Field in order to prevent a TV blackout where the game is not broadcasted in areas around Detroit.
So why did Cornerstone students go to the game?
“The reason I went is because the tickets were so cheap and it was my little cousin’s birthday. His name is Andrew. We have never been to an NFL game and this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Antonio Chapman said.
For some it was their first time at Ford Field.
“I went to the Lions game because I have always wanted to go and it was priced so low,” Josh Webb said.
Others went to have fun with friends.
“I went because my roommate wanted to go to a game and get crazy! Plus it was a cool road trip,” Adam Duerksen said.
While the ticket prices seemed to be the reason for many people deciding to go, what people liked or disliked about the game was different.
The stadium made an impression on some.
“I like the stadium the most. I was amazed at how huge the stadium was in real life,” Chapman said. “I disliked the prices of food.”
“I liked car pooling to the stadium and just being with friends,” Webb said.
Seat location was one of the things not to like about the trip.
“I disliked the location of the seats, but for 10 bucks you can’t expect something good,” Duerksen said.
While the Lions loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars 38-14 certainly was not the best part for the people that went, they were able to find other things that made their trip memorable.
“Singing the song after they scored the touchdowns [was the best part],” Webb said.
“Best part was actually being at the game. I didn’t know how much I cared about the Lions until I caught myself getting mad when the Lions kept getting scored on,” Chapman said.
Ford Field, the stadium where the Lions play, is a newer stadium and gives off different impressions to everyone.
“Ford Field is amazing, the construction of it is amazing,” Chapman said.
“Ford Field was pretty cool, I think it’s better than the Silver Dome, Duerksen said.
Silver and blue are the colors of the Lions, and blue can describe the Lions mood after a 0-9 start, but for the people that made the trip it was anything but.
