Album Review: Earth offers sweet, dark melodious drone

Earth released “The Bees Made Honey In the Lion’s Skull” in 2008 with a heavy-handed and bitterly dark approach to their nearly twenty years in drone music. Expanding the group’s typical style of slow, pensive instrumentation, Earth ventures deeper into psychedelic rock that finely blends with heavier sections and old, Southern-style feel. Lead-man Dylan Carlson adds a drummer and various other musicians to the mix while maintaining the carefully choreographed beauty of his music. Although genres may not accurately grasp the group’s vision, Earth continues to be a vibrant force of experimentation and pioneer within drone music.
