Film Review: Connelly cannot save disastrous movie

Jennifer Connelly and Keanu Reeves star in the remake of the 1951 science-fiction movie, “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” The movie revolves around an alien who comes to earth with a warning about an eminent takeover of earth if humans do not change their behavior. Visually, the movie is stimulating and on-par with the progression of eye-blowing computer-generated imagery. The writing and acting, however, were barely tolerable. Connelly does her best to save the comic-like dialogue and overuse of the word “change” but to no avail. Reeves offered a typical, not-really-acting performance which perpetuated the disappointment of the film. Diverging from the original film, the remake throws the environmental movement into forefront but in an annoyingly obvious, redundant manner. Rated PG-13 for some sci-fi disaster images and violence. Running time: 104 minutes.
