CU junior interns at Disney in Florida
Rebecca Reese, a Cornerstone junior, is interning at Downtown Disney’s Westside.
“I float between the three stores of Mickey’s Groove, Candy Cauldron and Disney Quest,” Reese said.
Her role is in merchandise, which includes working a cash register, stocking, cleaning, shipping, directing, helping guests and closing the stores.
She applied for the job online and viewed their e-presentation. Then after a phone interview, they offered her the spot working merchandise.
“I’ve learned a lot, not only about working business, but about myself as well. I’ve learned a lot about being outgoing and networking with other students,” Reese said.
Business-wise, she has learned a lot as well.
“I’ve learned a lot about customer service with trying to go above and beyond to assist and anticipate customer’s needs, and how to do that in an efficient manner,” she said.
“I love living and interning at Disney/Florida,” Reese said.
She lives in a Disney apartment, which is outside of Disney property. Reese has five roommates and each has her own bedroom. She does not have a car, so she has to rely on the provided Disney bus transportation systems.
“I’ve missed the buses and been late for work once, but having to be an hour and half early to catch the bus to make it to work on time has been a great lesson in responsibility,” Reese said.
One night while working outside, Reese and another cast member were covered in light-up necklaces and were selling light up toys. A lady and her two young kids who only spoke Spanish came up and bought a couple light-up toys from them. The family was so excited they even wanted to take a picture with them. Reese said they were so cute and excited.
“I have had several instances since I’ve been down here about guests being so excited and having a great time. It’s so special to be able to help their time be even more special,” Reese said.
Once her internship is finished, she plans to come back to Cornerstone to finish getting her degree in business administration.
“I would really love to do the Disney College Program again the semester after I graduate,” Reese said.
She recommends the College Program to anyone.
“The Disney College Program is definitely what you make of it. It could be a terrible experience, or it could be the best time of your life if you have a good attitude about it,” Reese said.
She has only been down there a month, but it has caused her to get outside her comfort zone and be outgoing.
“It has caused me to be more independent and responsible with my time. I am truly enjoying myself down here,” Reese said.
