fter six months being leaderless, at least on paper, the undergraduate admissions department finally has a new director.
Lisa Link, formerly a transfer admissions counselor and a CU graduate, was promoted to the undergraduate admissions director position early in the week of Feb. 16. As of May, she will have worked in CU admissions for five years. Her first job was a two and a half year stint as a freshman admissions counselor, before becoming a transfer admissions counselor.
“I started working here right after I graduated,” Link said. “I saw that there was an open position in admissions and thought that there couldn’t be a better fit for me than to work here. My love for Cornerstone has grown over the years. I’ve loved the experience here, and I have no regrets.”
This spring, Link will graduate with a master’s degree in management from CU.
As the new director, Link now reports directly to the senior vice president of enrollment management and marketing, Tim Johnston.
“She already had the respect of the admissions staff, she has heart and passion, and she knows and loves this place,” Johnston said. “Lisa has experience in the good times and the bad, and she’s dedicated — she has a tenacious work ethic.”
Johnston, who was recently hired by CU, said Link was already in the interim leadership position in admissions when he arrived, so the choice to promote her was simple. Johnston’s predecessor, Brent Rudin, the current associate vice president for university communications, had been in charge of admissions previously. The directorship has been vacant for six months.
Link’s responsibilities will be to head up new hiring in admissions, supervising admissions counselors, increasing enrollment and being a “visionary thinker.”
“I hope that I’ll be seeing some exciting things as director,” Link said.
Some of her goals as new director of undergraduate admissions include increasing enrollment, continuing training and development for admissions staff and coming up with creative strategies to attract students to CU.
“I want to make sure that the right students are here at Cornerstone,” Link said. “I want to help students know if this is the right place.”
