Stowell to release ‘Jesus Nation’ book in August

Cornerstone’s President Joe Stowell is busy writing another book.

Stowell’s new book is titled “Jesus Nation.” He has spent three years writing it. It contains roughly 70,000 words (approximately 200 pages) of Stowell’s ideas for what a Christian nation should look like.

“[It is about] facing the bewilderment of thinking that there has to be something more to life than what I am experiencing,” Stowell said. “The realization that I belong to an emerging nation of eternal proportions that dwarfs any earth bound identity, and I am learning to become an active participant in the greatest nation ever.”

Stowell said he was inspired to write this book because he realized that he desired to belong to Jesus’s nation, and living like the rest of the world means going nowhere fast.

Stowell started writing “Jesus Nation” because he had something to share with his fellow Christians.

“I have a deep desire to help Jesus followers realize that we are a part of His Kingdom and that as such we belong to a different nation that has a culture of its own with different attitudes, perspectives and values,” Stowell said.

Stowell’s book further explores the Christian lifestyle and why it is so important to be a part of God’s Kingdom.

“For too many Christians, our identity is shaped by the country we live in, the color of our skin, our economic standing and our professions,” Stowell said. “Jesus lifts us above all of that and gives us a new identity and a wonderful new way to live that reflects Jesus and His Kingdom. And while some of the Kingdom’s ways are rather radical, they are always the best way to live,” Stowell said.

Stowell is the author of 20 books, and they all seem to have one thing in common. “Most of my books are about my hero, Jesus,” Stowell said.

Stowell’s new book, “Jesus Nation,” is being published by Tyndale Publishers, and it will be available in August.

Jon Farrar, nonfiction acquisitions director from Tyndale Publishers, was part of the team who worked on Stowell’s book.

“I felt very privileged to spend that much time talking with [Dr. Stowell] about what’s important in life. I was impressed with his heart for God,” Farrar said.

He also said Stowell’s heart for God and his book made a big and lasting impression on the people he worked with at Tyndale Publishers.

“[Stowell’s] writing and speaking tone is unique, a mixture of casual and profound that draws people in,” Farrar said. “I love that, in ‘Jesus Nation,’ he is describing the Christian walk as something people belong to. People in today’s culture are yearning for real community.”

The people at Tyndale Publishers said they have great faith in Stowell and his mission.

“We think that Joe Stowell and ‘Jesus Nation’ will point hundreds of thousands of people toward Jesus,” Farrar said.

“‘Jesus Nation’ … recasts a new, ground-breaking vision for the Christian life. The Christian life isn’t simply the right way to live life or the power to make our lives better here on earth. It’s more than that,” Farrar said. “It’s about belonging to something bigger than ourselves. It’s about belonging to God in such a way that our lives contribute to God’s purposes and give our Creator glory.”

Stowell has a contract set up with Zondervan to write another book on how to deal with the inevitable disappointments of life.

But right now, Dr. Stowell has a new focus in mind.

“Dr. Stowell has indicated that he is concentrating on his new role at Cornerstone for the time being,” Farrar said. “He enjoys being part of becoming friends with and mentoring the next generation of Christ-followers. God has certainly placed a message on his heart for this generation.”
